When people walk past central Takapuna next Saturday, 12 July, they will get a whiff of the aromas of simmering broths and frying woks.

For the first time, a brand-new Takapuna Noodle Festival will be taking place, promising to be an immersive foodie experience celebrating all things noodles, food, drink and culture.
Thousands of festival goers are expected to flock to Waiwharariki Anzac Square, where over 50 stalls where food and noodle dishes from around the world will be on offer.
Expect everything from Sarawak laksa, Vietnamese pho, Thai boat noodles, Singapore mee pok, Japanese ramen, to Filipino Pancit and more.

Chow Luck Club director Bee Koh said noodles are a staple for people from many cultures, and the festival will celebrate aims to celebrate these noodle traditions and stories, offering something unique for everyone.
“Noodles have been eaten for thousands of years, and are deeply embedded in many culinary traditions from Japan, China, Malaysia, Italy and many more,” Bee says.
“There are thousands of ways these noodles are prepared, from soups, stir-fries, braised…and their popularity has surged in recent times.

Vendors will be serving up their signature noodle dishes at a $10 price point, so festival goers will be able to discover the myriad of noodle dishes and unique food items.
The enviable line-up of vendors includes Takapuna’s Takimi Mazesoba serving steaming bowls of ramen, Wok’n Noodle frying up Thai-style pad thai and get a preview of the flavours at Takapuna’s soon-to-open St Maree Bistro and Seafood Bar that’s replacing Catch 21.
Terence Harpur, Chief Executive Officer of the Takapuna Beach Business Association, said the Noodle Festival offers an exciting way to experience the depth of cuisines on offer in Takapuna, as well as celebrate flavours from around the world.

“Our dining scene is one of people’s favourite things about Takapuna, and what better occasion than the Takapuna Noodle Festival for groups to come together and indulge their taste buds,” Harpur said.
“People could make a day of it and experience everything else Takapuna has to offer, from great shopping, massages, escape rooms and even movie theatres.”
Harpur said this was also a great opportunity to support and celebrate the hospitality sector, which has been facing a challenging time.
