Asian-inspired culinary delights, build-your-own pho booth, a carvery and a dessert station with bingsu and shaved ice and chocolate fountain awaits guests at Jungle 8.

The eatery inside Elliott Stables in Auckland CBD has launched a new buffet offering what owner Paul Wong claims is the “best value for money in the city” at $48 per person.

The harmonious mix of offerings showcases a beautiful blend of Vietnamese and Asian-inspired cuisines, ranging from assorted rolled sushi, prawn cocktail with sriracha mayo, meat skewer satays and market fish ceviche.

Wong said Jungle 8’s culinary team worked hard on crafting a menu range that balances favourites that incorporated contemporary elements and international influences while keeping to the restaurant's Vietnamese theme.

“We strived to have dishes that everyone loves, for example sushi, meat skewers and banh mi, but incorporate modern elements like offering smoked salmon and cream cheese as a filling for the baguette for example,” he said.

“Doing small things like this, we hope, will enrich our customers’ dining experience.”

The must-try dishes are the beef sirloin with green chili pepper sauce and the roasted pork belly with crispy crackling with sweet gochujang sauce from the carvery section, and the chicken and lamb curries.

The beef bo kho stew is best savoured with the freshly baked banh mi baguette which diners can use to mop up the sauce. 

Those who enjoy having fried chicken can opt for the lemongrass crispy fried chicken, which goes pretty well with the fried rice or mee goreng noodles.

For something hearty and comforting, customers can build their own pho at the pho station. Take as much beef slices and herbs as you want, add them to your bowl of noodles and add the steaming hot broth from the soup dispenser.

The buffet spread also offers a selection of international dishes such as poached octopus, smoked mussels, grilled chicken salad, pork and beef dumplings, green curry and fried chili seafood.

Seafood and sashimi-loving customers can pay $20 per person extra to have a Seafood and BBQ Tower with unlimited top-ups.

There’s a wide variety of Asian and western desserts to end the buffet on a sweet note.

The two most popular items on the first day of the buffet were the chocolate fountain and the bingsu shaved ice.

Other desserts include carrot cake, chocolate brownie, mango mousse, creme brulee, panna cotta with tapioca and seasonal fresh fruits.

The Jungle 8 buffet will be served every Sunday from noon to 11pm, and the meal is priced at $48 for adults with a $20 pp add-on for the unlimited Seafood and BBQ tower. For children, it is half the price for 6 to 12 year-olds and free for those aged 5 and under.
