Craving some Malaysian-style curry, chilli or kam heong crabs?
Here’s your chance to indulge and feast on these juicy crustaceans at Imperial Palace Restaurant in Mount Wellington.
The famed Cantonese seafood restaurant is collaborating with veteran Malaysian chef Janet Chan to put the crab specials on the menu from Malaysia’s Merdeka Day on 31 August to Malaysia Day on Monday 16 September 2024.
Flavours include kam heong, belacan, chilli and curry mud crabs.
This will be in addition to the Heritage signature ginger spring onion, typhoon shelter, salted egg and black bean crabs.
Kam Heong is a signature Malaysian stir-fry style renowned for the fragrance imparted during the cooking process, hence the Cantonese term kam heong which means ‘golden fragrance’.
Over the two weeks, diners can enjoy each two-crab dish for $58 .
Janet Chan is no stranger to the local restaurant scene and a well-known chef among Malaysians in Auckland.
Originally from Penang, Janet is married to retired journalist and former editor of Malaysia’s largest English language newspaper The Star, Charles Chan.
“Prepare to indulge in a celebrated crab feast featuring some of the very unique Malaysian flavours to commemorate Merdeka and Malaysia Day,” Chan says.
Chan and her family have called Auckland home for more than 40 years.
She previously owned and ran Sri Intan Restaurant in Mount Albert where she served authentic Penang-style Nyonya food.
Since the restaurant closed in 2009, Chan has been working as a chef consultant and running her own catering and confinement food business.
Her aim is that for the two weeks, she could make Malaysians nostalgic for home and offer non-Malaysians a “tastebud holiday” to Malaysia.
Book to avoid disappointment.
