With the Islamic fasting month less than a month away, one of Chow Luck Club Foodie Market organisers Cynthia says demand is high from vendors for its Ramadan bazaar food stalls.

The weekly Saturday market at ParkCity in St John’s, dedicated to celebrating Auckland’s diverse and delicious cuisine and culture, is holding a special Ramadan special edition on 22 Feb 2024.

This year, the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Friday 28 February, depending on the sighting of the moon. It will be a period of fasting, prayer and community for Muslims.

The Chow Luck Club Foodie Market special edition is aimed at giving market goers a chance to gather and experience a variety of traditional and special dishes by some of Auckland’s Muslim community.

Cynthia, a Muslim from East Malaysia, said despite the fact there had been little publicity other than word of mouth, the response has been ‘high’ by stall holders wanting to secure their spots.

“There will be a couple of rows dedicated to just Halal food and Ramadan specials on the day,” Cynthia said.

“We have about 30 lots but they are going fast, and it is looking like there will be more applicants than the number of lots we have available.”

Cynthia said the organisers would carry out a shortlisting of vendors and confirm the stalls by Saturday 8 February.

“We are especially focused on what they are selling, because we don’t want people selling the same thing at the market,” Cynthia said.
