1. Nickie’s Thai
📍 34 Broadway, Newmarket

Nickie’s Thai in Newmarket offers a range of classic Thai dishes made with fresh ingredients and bold flavours. The restaurant has a warm and comfortable ambience, with seating that can easily accommodate large families—perfect for an iftar gathering. Their menu has a lot of variety and dishes are well-executed every time. I would highly recommend trying their Satay Gai (chicken satay skewers) which are perfectly tender, grilled to perfection, and served with a rich peanut sauce. Another must-try is their ‘Sexy Lady’ stir-fry, served on sizzling hotplates, and packed with exciting flavours—available with chicken, prawns or snapper fillets.
Their creative range of mocktails and desserts also perfectly complement the dining experience! Nickie’s is truly the full package as a restaurant and worth a visit this Ramadan.

Shaolin Kung Fu Noodles is a rare fully halal, authentic Chinese restaurant on Dominion Road (with no pork on the menu). The restaurant offers a variety of noodle-based dishes with rich broths and bold flavours. Their Sensational Spicy Chicken with Noodles is a standout, serving 3-4 people for just $49 and featuring fresh hand-pulled noodles. 5. Uncle Man’s Malaysian
📍 277 Karangahape Road, Auckland CBD

One thing about Uncle Man’s is that they’re never short on flavour. Their Mee Goreng, Kuey Teow Goreng, and Roti Canai with Chicken Curry are some of my favorites, offering great portion sizes and, of course, full of flavour. Also, try their Teh Tarik – a traditional Malaysian pulled hot milk tea! And if you have a sweet tooth, you must try their Roti Tissue – an elegant, sweet and crispy roti cone served with condensed milk.

6. Desa Corner
📍 246/254 Karangahape Road, Auckland

Desa Corner delivers an authentic and halal Malaysian dining experience. Their Nasi Goreng Campur is a fan-favourite – a flavourful medley of spicy fried rice, tender chicken, and juicy prawns, served with crispy fried tempe, fried egg, and a comforting bowl of chicken soup. Meanwhile their sambal Nasi Lemak dishes are my personal go-to with great portion sizes and the perfect integration of bold sambal flavours every single time! I highly recommend taking the family to try Desa Corner this month!

7. Bali Nights
📍 4 Williamson Avenue, Grey Lynn

Similar to Java, Bali Nights brings you halal Balinese street food favourites in a vibrant setting reminiscent of the buzz of the streets of Bali. Their plethora of grilled chicken dishes come with perfectly charcoal-infused flavours, meanwhile, their Beef Rendang is particularly tender and rich in taste.
