PETALING MALAYSIAN RESTAURANT CHAR KWAY TEOW
Petaling Malaysian Restaurant has been incredibly popular since it opened three years ago.
One of the most popular noodle dishes here is its char kway teow, which was voted by Chowies as Chow Luck Club’s favourite dish for 2024.
The kway teow rice noodles used are fresh, soft and coated with sauce and fried with bean sprouts, meat, lup cheong sausages and pork lard.
The char kway teow has a fantastic wok hei flavour, giving it a nice smoky aroma, and the lup cheong sausages have a charred saltiness that pairs well with the kway teow noodles.
Best eaten with the sambal, which is served on the side.

The noodles are cooked in prawn stock, resulting in a umami-rich, savory, creamy dish balanced with the sweetness from the prawn. It comes with large wild tiger or banana prawns, depending on availability.

LIMA BINTANG KL HOKKIEN MEE
At this Otahuhu eatery, expect your KL-style fried Hokkien mee to come with thick yellow noodles, slices of pork, prawns, squid and cabbage braised in a black, dark soy sauce mix.
KL Hokkien mee is one of the more famous dishes in Malaysia’s capital of Kuala Lumpur, but here, Lima Bintang is just one of a few Malaysian eateries that have it on the menu.
The dish is served with crispy pork lard bits on the top to add a depth of flavour and texture to the noodle dish.

The sambal served on the side also adds kick to the Hokkien mee. Mix it with the noodles when it is served hot, so that it can be absorbed well, giving it an extra oomph.
