Ajisen Ramen is launching a limited-time Black Knight Ramen on 16 October 2024 at its flagship Newmarket store to celebrate Auckland FC and its Japanese new captain Hiroki Sakai

Essentially an elevated Kumamoto black roasted garlic and sesame ramen, the Black Knight Ramen is served in a creamy, slow boiled pork bone tonkotsu broth and topped with ma-yu - or black garlic oil - for an added extra rich flavour and sweetness and topped with an onsen egg.

Osamu Honda, Ajisen’s International Chief Director, said the store was thrilled to collaborate with Chow Luck Club and Auckland FC to launch this celebratory ramen.

For $22.20 (figures representing the founding date of Ajisen Ramen and the number that Sakai wears on his jersey), customers can get to try special Black Knight Ramen.

“Auckland is getting a new home team for the A-league and we are both honoured and thrilled that a Japanese is its inaugural captain,” Honda said.

“We are excited and happy to launch the Black Knight Ramen for a limited time to celebrate and wish Auckland FC all the very best in their quest to win the league.”

Ajisen Ramen was founded in 1968 in Kumamoto, Japan and the chain today has more than 750 stores worldwide, including Australia, the USA, Canada, Italy, Singapore, China, Philippines and Japan.

Honda said it took several trials to get the flavours right, including a tasting session that involved members of Auckland FC and Chow Luck Club.

“The Black Knight Ramen is incredibly potent, just like Auckland FC, and will especially appeal to those who love garlic, sesame and a bit of heat,” he said.

Backed by American billionaire Bill Foley, Auckland FC - whose nickname is the Black Knights -  look set to make an impact in their inaugural campaign kicking off on Saturday, October 19, in a game against Brisbane Roar at Go Media Stadium.
