To be totally honest, Honda Jazz wouldn’t be my first choice if I were to buy a car. I’m more an SUV kind of girl.

But I was still kind of thrilled when a year ago, Honda came forward offering the sponsorship of a new-generation Jazz to support the work we do at Chow Luck Club.

Since its introduction, the Jazz has caused much controversy overseas over its design - some people say with its smooth surfaces and rounded edges, it’s just a pretty car.

We took over our Jazz in July 2023 - and after spending so much time with it, I can hand-on-heart say I have fallen in love with the car we named Jazzie.

Transporting equipment - large speakers, pull-up banners and crew - are a significant part of what we do when our events are on. No problem fitting them all in.

Jazzie’s cabin construction with the reduced A-pillars makes its interior more spacious than it looks. There’s also the rear ULTRA seats where you can fold the seat bases upwards to create a big loading space in the rear cabin.

Honda Jazz - Boot

Jazzie has a 284-litre boot space, not large, but the ability to fold the front passenger seat to almost flat has meant we could create a long loading area to fit our props.

The seats for a car this size, are truly plush and comfortable and there’s a 9.0-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.

The air-con controls are sleek and and there’s also an electric parking brake with auto hold function.

Honda Jazz - Crossstar interior

The Jazz offers plenty of legroom for passengers sitting at the back even when the front seats are at the rear most setting. Quite a few people have mentioned that.

Fuel economy at 23.1km/L trumps many other small vehicle this size that averages 20km/L. Makes a difference especially when I travel to meet hospitality partners outside of Auckland. At motorway speeds, the Jazz is also able to operate in EV drive.

Honda Jazz uses brand new hybrid technology e:HEV. This is efficient and more refined especially when driving long distances on the motorways.

It is also equipped with Honda Sensing features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System and Road Departure Mitigation System.

Honda Jazz - Back

The fourth generation Hybrid Jazz is truly an overall great well-rounded small car. The more I drive Jazzie, the more in love I am with her. She has won me over with her interior flexibility and fuel efficiency.

If you offered me a choice of an SUV or Honda Jazz - I’d choose the Jazz.
