Tucked away in Henry Rose Place, off Rosedale Road in Albany, is Wellbeing Korean BBQ & Buffet - a restaurant run by a former butcher, Chris Yoo and his wife, which uses just fresh, not frozen, meat and where diners are even given a premium meat platter to start.
They also offer unlimited Korean fried chicken, cooked dishes and fish cakes, and have an instant noodle cooking station and a bingsu station where customers can make their own shaved ice dessert.
“As a former butcher, I am very particular about the freshness and quality of the meat that I give my customers,” Chris said.
“I believe we are the only Korean BBQ buffet restaurant that gives customers a platter of special meat cuts to start their meal.”
Auckland’s North Shore is known to be where foodies head to for Korean fare, and Wellbeing is known for its quality meat and authentic Korean flavours.
Diners get to enjoy free-flow of meats for BBQ and also a raw beef dish called yukhoe, which is similar to beef tartare, made from fresh, raw, lean beef that is thinly sliced and seasoned with ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and sugar.
The curated meat selection that you get to grill at your table includes samgyeopsal (pork belly), cross-cut steak and and marinated pork scotch.
Feast on the wide variety of Korean favourites such as japchae, kimbap, tteokbokki, bulgogi, fried chicken, sweet and sour pork, kimchi, and assorted banchan.
Finish off sweetly at the dessert bar with patbingsu (shaved ice and red beans) and a hot cup of instant Korean coffee.
