Celebrations always feel more special when they involve food, drinks and having friends around the table.

With International Vegetarian Day and Coffee Day both falling on October 1, a vegan dinner event with coffee pairing feels like the perfect way to honour both days.

For one day only, Khu Khu Vegan Restaurant in collaboration with MQ Coffee will be offering a special menu where the mains are paired with a cold coffee brew and dessert with a special hot brew to honour the two special days.

Offering a three-course menu selected by Khu Khu owner Michael Khuwattanasenee from dishes crafted by his chefs at Khu Khu, they will complement two specific coffees selected by Aaron Zhu of MQ Coffee.

Khu Khu offers plant-based versions of Thai favourites such as pad thai, green curry, panang curry and fried rice.

The special will be priced at $35, and available only at Khu Khu Snickel Lane, located between Fort Lane and Commerce Street in the CBD on 1 Oct from 5 pm.

“My aim at Khu Khu is to show how vegan dishes can be just as delicious, but also for people to have a relaxing, chill place to hang out,” Michael said.

“I also want it to have a price point that people find affordable.”

Michael said this coffee collab is his first, and he was excited to have his restaurant be part of the celebrations of World Vegetarian and Coffee Day.

World Vegetarian Day was first observed in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.

It aims to promote the benefits of vegetarianism for humans, animals, and the environment and serves as a launch for Vegetarian Awareness Month, which continues through October.

International Coffee Day is celebrated annually on the same day as World Vegetarian Day, and was launched in Milan in 2015 by the International Coffee Organisation.

The day was created to celebrate the beverage, raise awareness about the challenges faced by coffee producers, and promote sustainable coffee production.

MQ Coffee is a specialty coffee brand that was established in China in 2009, with a total farm-to-cup concept.
