I recently spent a weekend with the new Honda HR-V Hybrid, and to say I loved it would be an understatement. Having always driven hatchbacks, I was a little nervous about trying an SUV for the first time, but the transition was seamless. The HR-V Hybrid was incredibly smooth and effortless to drive, making me feel comfortable from the moment I got behind the wheel.
If you know me, you know how much I enjoy car picnics, and let me tell you, the HR-V Hybrid is a dream for them. With the magic of the car’s folding seats, the back transformed into a spacious, cozy nook perfect for spreading out blankets, laying back, and enjoying a mini feast with my favourite snacks. Not only is it great for relaxing, but the space is incredibly useful for storage too - whether you're packing up for a weekend trip or simply need extra room for groceries.
One of the best things about the car is how economical it is. I took a drive out to Waitākere and all around Auckland, and with petrol already in the car, I didn’t have to worry about fueling up the whole weekend. I also got to enjoy the benefits of the Hybrid engine without needing to plug it in.
Of course, the features really elevated the experience. Apple CarPlay was a game-changer for navigating my way across the city. And with Spotify playing through the display, I could easily switch between tracks without ever having to take my hands off the wheel. It was both practical and a lot of fun.
The HR-V Hybrid is packed with safety and convenience features. The lane assist and blind-spot detectors gave me added peace of mind, especially as someone new to driving an SUV. I also found the 3-angle reversing camera incredibly helpful when parking - being able to switch between different views made backing up much easier. The forward collision warning and road departure mitigation system added extra layers of security, helping me feel safe and confident, especially on winding or unfamiliar roads.
And, let’s talk about the heated seats - they were a dream come true. With the touch of a button, they warmed up almost instantly, making those chilly mornings and evenings much more bearable. It's a small feature, but it added such a touch of comfort and luxury to the whole experience.
